From Humble Beginings
Michael Popovic opened Mediterraneo in November 2002 using his lifetime experiences working in Australia and Europe.
Using the best available ingredients and mallee root charcoal, the restaurant has earned a reputation for consistently well-cooked dishes, extensive wine list and attentive food and wine services. Mediterraneo was awarded with Best Steak Restaurant Award by Restaurant and Catering Association Victoria in 2006 and the wine list just won the prestige Three Glass Award by Gourmet Traveller Wine in July 2018.
The source of heat and method of cooking is vital to food. We use natural mallee root charcoal, with intense heat and clean smoke, the charcoal imparts a special smokey caramel-like flavours to the dishes. By not cooking the produce in sauce, we highlight the ingredients’ quality. Only quality produce can be used with this method of cooking.
